i wear your granddad's clothes...

Top: Thrifted / Pants: UO.com / Necklace: Brickyard Buffalo
On Jasper- Top: Target / Pants: Ebay / Shoes: Toms
Does anyone else kind of love that song? I might now know exactly what it is about, but any song that talks about thirfting is ok by me.

I can't think of much to say about this week other than Justin and I have both been a feeling a bit off, and Jasper is teething. And that is pretty much that.

Between sickness, work and mommying, I've pretty much failed as a housewife the last few months. A couple weeks ago Justin and I finally admitted defeat and paid my siblings to come help us clean. Even with the help, there is still a sink full of dishes, two baskets of unfolded clean laundry, a full basket of dirty laundry, and a load out in the washer that I've probably ran at least 4 times, because I keep forgetting about it.

But spring is on its way, and who wants to stay in and do laundry anyways?

a weekend and a holiday

Pics via instagram @lifeofapasseri, @jsluczak
A few pics from our trip to Idaho this weekend, and our Fourth of July.

Apparently Justin and I are 80 years old, or perhaps our little hike with the puppies wore us out (in which case we would still be 80 years old), because we both were so tired and much to lazy to go find some fireworks Wednesday night.

Still. I'm so grateful to live in this country. The freedom we enjoy is such a blessing and a privilege.

Plus, where else could you find a ceramic elephant for $3?

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Well if finally snowed here in Utah for about a day, and now it is raining again. I swear, this weather can't make up its' mind. The good news is I can wear a heavy sweater without getting too hot. Which is kind of big deal over here.

In other news, work has been crazy. I've been doing the company shuffle late into the evening this month, which seems to leave me feeling too drained to do anything except hula hoop and watch Netflicks, including getting dress. I'm finding that slopping jane has been making an appearance more than usual lately (she types in a too-short robe and hair going on day 5 of a no-wash run. tmi? Maaybe).

Justin is in anatomy and if it doesn't kill him, I  think he will really enjoy it.

Other than crazy insane work and school schedules, things have pretty much calmed down over here, which hopefully will allow me a little more time for fun things like blogging. :)

hope everything is well in everyone else's world.

You know you spend too much time at work when you start dreaming about work. You know you spend too much time reading science fiction when you start to have dreams of your work as the nerve center for the human resistance during an alien invasion.

Yes that was my dream last night.

Have you ever read The Host by Stephanie Myers? Before you judge (well I suppose if your going to judge, you’ve already done it so judge away), I really like it much more than the Twilight series. I feel like it is a bit more mature and well developed, which is perhaps why it isn’t nearly as popular.

Anywho, I’ve been listening to the book, so in my dream, alien parasites were taking over the earth, and my work became one of the last strongholds of humanity. Justin had been “taken over” by a parasite, so I had to flee, and ended up falling in love with this guy at my work that I’ve never even talked to. And our head engineer was the leader of the human resistance. And me and my boyfriend were in charge of the grocery shopping.

This raises several disturbing questions:

1. Why am I “in love” with a guy I’ve never even spoken to?
2. Should I be concerned that I am willing to put my life in the hands of our head engineer?
3. Why, in the event of an alien invasion, does my subconscious mind think the extent of my contribution would be grocery shopping?

I’ve decided that it will be best if I don’t look too deeply into the meaning of my dreams.

the view from my window.

Our dresser in its new location!
Well not my window exactly. More like various locations around my room, where our new little (actually quite massive) dresser has found a home.

We've made or re-made a large number of our decor in here, so if you see something you'd like to know more specifically what we did to create it, let me know, and I'll try and post a more detailed how-to. Sorry I don't have more in the moment pictures. I find that when I start doing a project, I get super-duper engrossed and forget to take pictures while I'm doing it! So sorry for the ridiculous amounts of pictures here. I suppose I'm trying to make up for it!

Remade: dresser, vintage mirror, jewelry box, white picture frame, white and blue storage boxes, vintage frames
Handmade: orange plywood board, storybook mums
We refinished those crates, and put them together to make a night stand. The mums on the wall are made from my least favorite text book of all time :)
My friend Carrian gave me this idea after I saw her do it to a lovely wreath in their house. I used crinckled white streamers and twisted them into little roses, and then glued them onto this old ugly frame. Prettier now! :)
I got these 4 boxes from Big Lots for $20 and then repainted them to match what I wanted for our room.  I used spray paint for the white and gray and then used a kind of stencil I found for a buck, and sponged on the blue paint.
I was actually really quite pleased with how these turned out!
This old mirror was super Mc-Ugly when we bought it at a garage sale.  A coat of spray paint, and a little distressing later, and I am in love!
I got this old encyclopedia from a sidewalk sale for $2 the jewelry box was a gift, but it got chipped, so I refinished it in a happy green color!
Like the dresser, we got these shutters from Habitat for Humanity home store, for $10 I wrapped the hanger in the same streamers used to make the frame, and hung dried flowers on hemp from it!
This corner of the room is the corner that needs the most work. The gray panels against the wall will hopefully someday be a headboard, and I made those poof balls a long time ago, and I'm not sure I like them as much any more. I refinished this mirror too, along with the lamp and the little jewelry box from savers for $6.

We love our little room! Almost makes us feel like real adults!!!
