lipsticks... splurge vs save

When I was contacted by Credit Card Insider to participate in their Splurge vs Save campaign, I knew right away what I wanted to feature.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a big fan of lipsticks. As a blogger & a photographer, I know the power a little color on the lips can do, especially in pictures.

When buying lipsticks, there are more options out there that could be realistically listed anywhere ranging from the super high end, to your cheaper drug store versions.

Generally speaking I myself might recommend buying the fancy brand for some of those staple colors that you know will always be in season, but 90% of the time, especially for colors that come in and out each season, I'll op for the more wallet friendly version. And while there may be some quality between brands, for the most part, I have been pretty impressed with the drugstore versions. Most of those big drugstore names spend a significant wad of cash of scientist and teams whose entire job it is to improve the quality of the product.

Some of my favorite drugstore versions include NYX, Cover Girl, and even Wet & Wild when I'm looking for a really pigmented color. Whenever I've find a color I just have to have in a pricier brand, I've always been able to find a close match in my drugstore standbys.

So next time you are in the market for a new lipcolor, give a drugstore version a try!

1. Laura Mercier $27   | 2. Yves Saint Laurent: $35 | 3. Clarins $32  | 4. Yves Saint Laurent $46
1. Revlon $7 | 2. NYX $4 | 3. Revlon $7 |  4. L'Oreal $8.50

30 seconds to a better blog:

Like most bloggers, when I started my blog, I wanted it to be a creative outlet outside of my day to day obligations.

But, like most bloggers, I had to figure out a lot of it on my own. Especially what do to with design.

Design is an ever ongoing process for most of us, and something I usually have very little time for. Usually, if I have a spare moment, it goes into making a post, or reading my blog list. Someday I'll sit down and find a good designer and get the thing done up properly, but for the moment, its on me.

SO, I wanted to share one of the easiest, quickest ways I've found to improve the look and feel of posts: how to make your post images the same size:

Have you ever wondered how to make all your posts images uniform without calculating the height for each picture? It takes about 30 seconds, and the principle should be the same whether you are using blogger, wordpress or any other blogging platform.

But, because I use blogger myself, I'll explain the step by step on that platform.

 1. Upload the images for your post
2. Change all the images default sizes to X-large. When you are manipulating the size of the image, I've found that the quality isn't impacted as much if you go from bigger to smaller rather than the other way around.
3. Go to the area of your site that will allow you to manipulate the HTML of your post. (This usually says...HTML)
4. Do a page search for "height" it will highlight anywhere on the page that says "height" (hold control + F for PC's, command + F for Macs).
5. Next to where it says height, there should be parenthesis with numbers in them. Delete the numbers and input "auto" inside the parenthesis  This will make it so the image height will automatically adjust depending on the width.
6. Find where it says width (usually somewhere under where it said height) and change the number within those parenthesis so it is the same for all the images in your post.
Viola! Uniform images! Now doesn't that look nice!

Meet Sherri!

Guys, I am SOOOOOO excited to introduce to you Sherri from Sherriamour! She is new to the blogging scene, but already I LOVE her blog. She is so sweet, and has the most amazing style and tips that she just throws out like it 'aint no thang. I'm so jealous of how easy she makes it look! You MUST check it out. This is not a request.

Do it now!

Or I suppose you can read her post here first, but seriously, run over to her sweet little blog, and give her some love!

-Heather

Hi ya'll! I'm so happy to be here! I'm Sherri from SHERRIAMOUR, a blog about my personal style and my life. I am filipino and I'm from Canada. I'm soon to be graduated at UofM and figuring out what my next chapter in life will be. I'm new to this blogging world and I was inspired to start a blog by joining mormon fashion bloggers. And I'm learning how this is a great way to make friends! I am a thrift hunter and I love vintage dresses. I want to share some of my favourite style basics to keep things simple and fun!

Basic #1: Blazer

A blazer can be dressed up or down and it is an effortless way to make an outfit chic.

Basic #2: Loafers

These are a timeless piece and they are perfect for almost any occasion. They are practical and so comfy!

Basic #3: Chambray Button up

This is definitely my favorite shirt right now. It pretty much goes with everything. I would wear it everyday if I could!

Basic #4: Sunnies

Can be worn any day when the sun is shining! A great pair of shades can make your look (wayfarers and aviators are timeless and snazzy).

Basic #5: Nailpolish

Painting your nails is a fun way to change things up! Try playing with different colors and nail trends (my favourite colors right now; navy blue, mint, basic red, coral, and metallics).

I hope this was helpful! Thanks Heather for being so sweet and welcoming me on your blog! It was fun!

these boots were made for walking...

...or more like these clothes were meant for packing. But there's not a saying for that.

Do you guys ever have a hard time packing for trips? I always hated getting to destinations and pulling out wrinkly close. Partly because wrinkles are the poo's but mostly because I hate ironing.

The solution?

Roll, don't fold. Not only will it save you space, it will keep your clothes from getting wrinkly. Knits work especially well. They may not turn out perfect, but you can definitely get away without the iron.

I loved not having to iron these dresses on our last trips. And apparently red is my traveling color.
